Class Descriptions
Basic Bellydance I - This is a dance/exercise class format including a warm-up and a cool-down, but we take time to ensure proper stance/posture and isolations are achieved and maintained. Simple combinations are added as we progress. You will have an oportunity to see dance DVDs and discuss different bellydance styles.
Basic Bellydance II - We keep working to perfect isolations as we add veil work, floor work, and zills (finger cymbols). More complex dance combinations and layering of shimmies are developed. Individual dance preference is discussed and explored as you see more DVD material, become familiar with the different types of music, and practice the different style movements. Different costume styles are discussed.
Intermediate BD - Sword and cane work is added. I excourage improvision, and stress the importance of introducing chorographed spots into favorite pieces. We work on complex combinations, shimmy layering, and adjusting transitional moves in relation to floor space. We develope individual dance routines that include entry and exit; use of veil, zills, cane, or swords where desired. I encourage personal choice in music and a compilation of numbers (including fast, medium, and slow paced pieces). Group dance formation is encouraged along with the chorography. First costumes are prepared.
Intermediate BD II - These students have preformed in a show! They are actively developing their dance style, routines, and music and costume choices. They have put together their first costumes and are expanding their dance wardrobe. We still have lots of work to do - choosing music, perfecting the more difficult moves, chorography, and always - those isolations!
